They talked about the textures and what it felt like when they touched it. They kept saying it looked like jelly. They used their hands to pull and stretch the slime. Some children even used perforated scoopers to scoop the slime and watched it dripped through the hole. | SeasideThe children have been very interested in learning about different sea creatures. They have been asking questions about where these creatures leave. This activity was aimed at creating a beach scene using small world people. They had a lot of fun. |

This week they LOVED making chocolate rice ‘Krispy’ cakes. They helped measure the ingredients and used a spoon to stir and mixed them together. |
Postman WeekWe have been looking and discussing about all the different ways people help us. They wrote and posted their own letters using stamps. They also used brown paper to wrap objects up resembling a parcel. The children received a surprise letter delivered to their home address thanking them for all their hard work and help. | Mark makingThe children love messy play activities. They enjoyed choosing their own colours and using stamps to make marks. The children on their own volition decided to use paint brushes to make different marks, some even used their fingers getting really creative. | Making PizzaThe children had fun making pitta bread pizza. The children got the opportunity to create a pizza with the ingredients of their choice. They helped grate the cheese, spread the tomato base, and selected the toppings. They maintained good hygiene all through and could not wait to eat what they had prepared! |
Hair DressersThe children were thought about the occupation of hair dressing. They styled the manikin heads using brushes, hair-bands, clips, and head bands. They even used appointment forms to write and organise their time efficiently. | Formy SandThe children mixed sand and soap together to form a ‘foamy’ feeling sand. They described the texture and squeezed it in between their fingers watching it fall out. | Doctors and NursesThe children really engage when role-playing and learning about doctors and nurses. This gave them the opportunity to help others and encouraged them to build relationships. |
Dinosaur and fossil huntingThis activity consisted of soil, dinosaurs, fossils, and bones. The children enjoyed hiding the bones in the soil and used spades to dig them out. Some children even used paint brushes to brush the soil off the fossils. | Cutting FruitEach day the children get the chance to cut fruits for snack time. They use a knife and chopping board. This is aimed at developing their ability to understand how we prepare food and to teach them about everyday skills. | Corn flour playWe mixed water and corn flour together to make a paste. The children enjoyed exploring the texture talking about how it felt. They also experimented using paint to colour the mixture. |
Clay ModellingThe children love being creative with clay. During this activity, they used play-dough cutters to make different shapes. They used rolling pins to make it flat developing their hand and eye coordination. Once dried, the children used paint and glitter to decorate the dough. | Bug investigationThe children have been learning and talking about all the different bugs we can see or may not always see. This activity gave them an opportunity to explore and find different bugs. They used bug catchers to select the bugs and matched them to small bug photos. | Autumn TreesThe children used their fingers to make their own autumn trees. We talked about why the leaves turn red, orange, yellow and brown. |
Autumn leavesWe went out to explore our surrounding where the children looked for bugs and fallen leaves. We collected the leaves and took them back to nursery. The children really enjoyed making marks with the leaves using paint. | Shopping Role PlayThe children really enjoyed using the till to become little shoppers. We transformed our home corner into a mini shop and the children used baskets and were given play money to buy different items. They used the timer to take turns and were really keen to flip it themselves when the sand ran out. They operated the till themselves by opening it and counting the money and even giving change. | Halloween SpiderThis was a wet sand texture activity with some glitter added. We made spiders using small polyester balls with pipe cleaners as legs. The children have been very interested in spiders and enjoyed hiding them and exploring. |
