Welcome to Our Activity Page
We have been discussing the importance of hygiene with the children. This activity gave them a better and clear understanding of everyday care routines. They used sponges and brushes to ensure the babies were clean and talked about when they have baths at home.
The children love slime. They talked about the textures and what it felt like when they touched it. They kept saying it looked like jelly. They used their hands to pull and stretch the slime. Some children even used perforated scoopers to scoop the slime and watched it dripped through the hole.
The children have been very interested in learning about different sea creatures. They have been asking questions about where these creatures leave. This activity was aimed at creating a beach scene using small world people. They had a lot of fun.
We love science
Our science area gives the children a wide range of resources to support their learning and development in understanding the world.
They enjoyed using the letter moulds to create marks in the sand.
Rice Krispy Fun
The children love baking and have the opportunity twice a week to participate in cooking. This week they LOVED making chocolate rice ‘Krispy’ cakes. They helped measure the ingredients and used a spoon to stir and mixed them together.
We have been looking and discussing about all the different ways people help us. They wrote and posted their own letters using stamps. They also used brown paper to wrap objects up resembling a parcel. The children received a surprise letter delivered to their home address thanking them for all their hard work and help.
The children love messy play activities. They enjoyed choosing their own colours and using stamps to make marks. The children on their own volition decided to use paint brushes to make different marks, some even used their fingers getting really creative.
The children had fun making pitta bread pizza. The children got the opportunity to create a pizza with the ingredients of their choice. They helped grate the cheese, spread the tomato base, and selected the toppings. They maintained good hygiene all through and could not wait to eat what they had prepared!
The children were thought about the occupation of hair dressing. They styled the manikin heads using brushes, hair-bands, clips, and head bands. They even used appointment forms to write and organise their time efficiently.
The children mixed sand and soap together to form a ‘foamy’ feeling sand. They described the texture and squeezed it in between their fingers watching it fall out.
Doctors and Nurses
The children really engage when role-playing and learning about doctors and nurses. This gave them the opportunity to help others and encouraged them to build relationships.
Dinosaur and fossil hunting
This activity consisted of soil, dinosaurs, fossils, and bones. The children enjoyed hiding the bones in the soil and used spades to dig them out. Some children even used paint brushes to brush the soil off the fossils.
Each day the children get the chance to cut fruits for snack time. They use a knife and chopping board. This is aimed at developing their ability to understand how we prepare food and to teach them about everyday skills.
Corn flour play
We mixed water and corn flour together to make a paste. The children enjoyed exploring the texture talking about how it felt. They also experimented using paint to colour the mixture.
The children love being creative with clay. During this activity, they used play-dough cutters to make different shapes. They used rolling pins to make it flat developing their hand and eye coordination. Once dried, the children used paint and glitter to decorate the dough.
The children have been learning and talking about all the different bugs we can see or may not always see. This activity gave them an opportunity to explore and find different bugs. They used bug catchers to select the bugs and matched them to small bug photos.
The children used their fingers to make their own autumn trees. We talked about why the leaves turn red, orange, yellow and brown.
We went out to explore our surrounding where the children looked for bugs and fallen leaves. We collected the leaves and took them back to nursery. The children really enjoyed making marks with the leaves using paint.
Shopping Role Play
The children really enjoyed using the till to become little shoppers. We transformed our home corner into a mini shop and the children used baskets and were given play money to buy different items. They used the timer to take turns and were really keen to flip it themselves when the sand ran out. They operated the till themselves by opening it and counting the money and even giving change.
This was a wet sand texture activity with some glitter added. We made spiders using small polyester balls with pipe cleaners as legs. The children have been very interested in spiders and enjoyed hiding them and exploring.
Halloween Apple Stamps
The children enjoy learning about different festivals. This week they used apples to make pumpkin prints and added black triangles to create faces.
We made orange cakes and added food colouring. The children created mini pumpkins using rice Krispys and decorated them using chocolate chips.
We created a spooky spider web invasion for the children to explore during Halloween. They used tweezers to collect spiders and we discussed how spiders make webs as their homes.
Autumn is here
The children really enjoyed learning and talking about the different seasons. This activity was focused on the autumn season. We talked about the leaves falling off tress and we used puzzles and books to enable the children explore further.
